A Date at the Castello Banfi: 27.04.19, Tuscany, Italy

Catriona’s experience

How you found me:

I found Birute through a google search and she happened to have done the wedding makeup for a girl I knew from university. So I contacted my friend and asked her opinion and she had nothing but wonderful things to say about Birute so I went ahead and contacted her!

What were your expectations of a bridal MUA before we met?

I had no idea what to expect, but hoped that the MUA I hired would be friendly and know how to make some good suggestions, as well as transform any of the looks I had as inspiration into something that would work for me. I had a Pinterest board and luckily Birute does make up very similar to my tastes, which is a fairly natural look.

What was your experience at our first meeting – the trial?

It was a very straightforward experience in the end and I would absolutely recommend her! Birute was such a sweetheart and made me feel so comfortable, even offering me a glass of bubbly! She is very friendly and uses great products, which was really important to me as I have sensitive skin.

What look did you go for and who had their makeup done?

I went for a fairly natural look with a nice glow for my skin and eye shadow and a hint of wing eyeliner that was nice and subtle. The choice of lip colour was my favourite, and Birute was so great at adapting the colour change after the trial. My mother, the mother of the groom, sister of the groom, and my maid of honour all had their make up done by Birute. She worked for hours and came all the way to Italy for the wedding, which was really appreciated. They all looked amazing!

How did you feel once your look was complete?

I was so apprehensive about how I would feel, as I generally don’t wear a lot of makeup or have my hair fancy, or even wear dresses! So being all dressed up for the big day was something I was worried about. But I was so happy with the final look and looking back at the photos I can see why – just amazing!

Did you enjoy the process? What tips would you give to brides-to be? Would you recommend me to others and why?

100%. It was so easy and comfortable. I will consider booking her for future events because it was exactly what I wanted and lasted all night!

Creating a flawless makeup base

How did the trial/consultation go for you?

In terms of the make up, Catriona didn’t want anything over the top, just a simple nude shadow with some nice lashes and top liner. We wanted to create a beautiful flawless base and cat eye wing with the help of individual fake lashes. As the wedding was in Italy we had to make sure that the makeup stays in the hot weather conditions.

Skin prep was key so I advised Catriona to stay hydrated, cleanse and moisturise properly leading towards her big day. On the day, I refreshed her skin as it’s super important to lay perfect foundations for makeup to follow. I chose Avene moisturiser as it’s suitable for sensitive skin and very moisturising. It’s important to put makeup in stages to let the layers set.

For the evening, Catriona changed her lipstick into a bright red one.
